As I stand here looking at this incredible crowd, I feel an overwhelming sense of happiness.; for this is the result of months of hard work and sleepless nights. None of this would have been possible if we did not have a team of strong, dedicated, passionate, hard workers made up of students from each Lebanese association at all the universities here in Montreal as well as the consulate general for their consistent faith in us youth and their sponsorship of the Lebanese wine.
We are a group of non-political, non-religious, non-profit based associations with an aim of making our Lebanese Diaspora community a family. One that is stronger, whether it be through networking or uniting to work together, smarter- through scholarships given on both academic and financial basis, and at the same time represent the positive image of Lebanon to the Canadians; for at the end of the day no one else is going to be a better example of our culture, our people, our values than ourselves.
Now we are all gathered here tonight: students, distinguished guests, professors, researchers, engineers, and lawyers in support of something larger than our individual selves. Collectively, we are the Lebanese community of Montreal, and we, by working together are proving that united we stand divided we fall.
When we first came up with this idea last year there were some people that were on board right away, but I cannot say the same for everyone. They told us: you actually expect people to show up to this? You want to get how many people? "Chekri rabbik iza byeji 5amseen cha5es." They told us in our colloquial arabic, "3ichya." So we did...working to not only make this event a reality but one of high class caliber- that we deserve.Because we saw how talented our community was- how we are a group of dreamers, innovators, and game changers.
Granted, we, us Lebanese, we are the underdogs. We have our problems, lots and lots of problems... but despite everything and everyone against we prove time and time again that not only can we survive, we can succeed and flourish. Tonight we are proving to all the Lebanese back home, as well as all the other Lebanese Diasporas, that our community here in Montreal is strong and works together.
Tonight is your event, a night were we celebrate all your accomplishments, achievements, and success stories; and now I would like to ask you all to take a good look at the crowd besides you and to start a loud round of applause as we celebrate how far we have come. Thank you and enjoy the night!
